Community Asset Transfer and Support Programme
Thinking of Taking on a Community Building or Land?
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council has launched a new Community Assets Programme, offering local voluntary and community organisations the chance to take on council-owned buildings or apply for major grants to improve existing community spaces.
This initiative is designed to help groups create lasting impact through better access to physical spaces that support their work.
Managing a community asset can be a rewarding experience, providing a permanent base and deeper community connections. However, it also comes with significant responsibilities, including long-term planning, maintenance, and financial sustainability.
To help organisations decide whether this opportunity is right for them, Voluntary Action Surrey East (VASE), in partnership with Reigate & Banstead Borough Council, held two online sessions explaining:
what Community Asset Transfer involves
who is eligible to apply
what to consider before taking on a building or land
how to prepare for the Expression of Interest stage
where to find support for developing a business case in 2026
A recording is available below to watch along with all of the supporting documentation.
